she's still a bit quiet a day later after getting spayed.
nothing to alarm me, she eats great, she's acting fine. I won't worry since she just had major surgery.
the hospital was rather nice, a big, new building and friendly staff. the vet was okay--except of course when he got on my nerves about vaccines. Yes, I've had her a year. No, she didn't have "puppy shots", I am fully aware of the vaccines and what they're for, thanks, end of discussion. My dog, my choice. He then comes back in and asks what I'm feeding her. When I said raw he hesitated before continuing, I'm sure he knew that that argument was a moot point. People who raw feed, especially prey model, have not made the decision lightly or easily--at least that was the case for me. It was two months before I finally took the plunge with Judah. I will never, ever, ever go back to kibble.
So he says, "It's just that she's a little on the thin side. I wouldn't say she's unhealthily skinny, since the biggest problem pets have these days is obesity so it's good that she's thin, it's just she might be too skinny. Is this normal for her?"
"She has always been a very slim dog. She's grown a lot in the last year, she eats as much as my dogs that weigh twice as much as she does, she just carries her weight very differently."
He mentioned parasites and I said I honestly didn't think that was a problem. She's never shown signs of losing weight, only growing and maintaining the same very lean build. She's like a whippet. You can see their ribs on all of my dogs. Judah and Israel weigh the same, despite Israel being shorter than Judah, but he is solid muscle. My mom commented, "You can feel him shake the house as he walks through!" and you really can. People think HE'S too skinny, but the problem isn't my dogs, it's the fact that people don't know what a healthy, THIN dog looks like!
I wouldn't say any of them are underweight, I gladly say that my dogs are, in fact, SKINNY. They eat healthily, I feed almost no commercial foods except for high-quality treats (dehydrated liver, Zukes, jerky, etc) and the table scraps they get when I drop food.
I just find it a bit "amusing" (read: annoying) that people think because my dogs are heaven forbid thin/skinny/whatever that there's something wrong with them. Judah already has joint problems. Keeping her thin is a huge help on her joints. Simona has always been leggy and lean yet she eats as much as Israel and Judah! Her metabolism is probably really efficient--she was weaned to raw thanks to pitbullmama! Simona is a 100% rawfed dog.
I know my dogs eat what they should, I know they eat as much as they should, and I know that keeping them thin (yes, they are skinny. emaciated? far from it) will only benefit them in the long run for their health.

First of all, there are other reasons to diet aside from weight. I am happy with my weight now so don't start the "omg you're so thin" bullshit with me, I want to be HEALTHY too. In fact, in the winter of 2009/2010 I used to weigh about 15 pounds lighter... I gained weight with salads on this awesome diet. :) Purposeful weight gain. Healthily.

I am not sure where or when I steered off course but I remember it was gradual and then I was totally lost.

Uh... and the salads were blended; I feel like a cow chewing and chewing and chewing and chewing and chewing and chewing on cud and I never can seem to finish a salad that isn't blended cause of all that chew chew chewing.

This picture is to mark this date and remind myself of why this diet is so good for me if I ever steer off course again. I have been off my allergy diet for I forget how long. And it's been plagueing me for a while now: stomach pains from my ulcers, moodiness, acne galore, OCD flare-ups, a struggle to control my trichotillomania (eyelashes, mainly), a hard to find and difficult to get along with artistic muse (oh such a HUGE list here), heart going off beat so much it's been worrying me, and who knows what else I haven't noticed yet like a slow healing foot??? Too young to feel so damn old.

This picture is of a PART of tomorrow's lunch and the first step to a quick journey back on my allergy and feel-good diet: veggies focusing on dark greens, some fruit, meats and sprouted breads if any bread at all.

The only junk I will allow myself is chocolates and chips as I have never found a satisfying healthy replacement for those (though the cravings reduce greatly on this diet!). For chips a sometimes-replacement are cactus paddles. But those are difficult to find somethings it seems despite where I live lol.
